V.W. Bro. Ian Clark PGJO,

When Leigh Lodge of Mark Master Masons, 1322, in the unavoidable absence of their Master, asked
V.W. Bro. Ian Clark PGJO, to take the chair in Monday 21st January 2013 they had asked a mason
extraordinary!

V.W. Bro. Ian is a very experienced mason and has a somewhat ‘interesting’ peripatetic Masonic pedigree.
In the Mark Degree you may well know him as a Past Warden of the Province from 1993, but his Masonic
interests extend far beyond the borders of West Lancashire.

In the Craft he holds the rare distinction of being a Past Master of Lodges meeting in West Lancashire,
Lanarkshire, and Dublin, under the English, Scottish, and Irish Constitutions respectively.

In the Royal Arch he is a Past 1st Principal in both
the English and Scottish Constitutions.

Many Royal Arch Masons in England will have seen
the demonstrations of the ceremony of the ‘Passing
of the Veils’, and Ian is one of the few West
Lancashire Royal Arch Masons who has worked the
ceremony on a number of occasions under the
Scottish Royal Arch Constitution where it is known
as the Excellent Masters Degree.

In the Mark Degree he is also a Past Master of a
Scottish Lodge of MMM, and is currently the
Commander of a Scottish Lodge of Royal Ark
Mariners.

Beyond the Craft and Royal Arch he holds high office
in a number of other Orders including ‘Rose Croix’,
Cryptic Council (Scottish equivalent of Royal and
Select Masters), ‘Knight Templar’ in which he is the
Immediate Past 2nd Constable of the Province of
Lancashire, ‘The Operatives’, and he is at present
in the chair of a Tabernacle of ‘Knight Templar
Priests’ meeting in Liverpool.
Right: V.W.Bro. Ian Clark PGJO

V.W. Bro. Ian is also a ’Head of Order’ within Lancashire. He is The R.W. Provincial Grand Master for
the Counties Palatine of Lancaster and Chester of the Royal Order of Scotland.  This Order is a world
wide Christian Order with its headquarters in Edinburgh.

It is well known to our very own Mark Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Peter Connolly, who is a Past
Substitute (Assistant) Provincial Grand Master, and the current Deputy Provincial Grand Chaplain in that
Order.

So Brethren, the next time you meet V.W. Bro. Ian, and invite him to a particular function, don’t be too
surprised if he says, “Let me just check my diary”.
